Open Communication: Working with Faculty to Integrate Information Literacy into a New Baccalaureate Program

Speaker: Mark Marino, Information Literacy Librarian, State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota.

In 2010, the State College of Florida (SCF) began offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Collaborating with new faculty, SCF librarians worked to integrate library resources and information literacy skills into the BSN curriculum. This was done using orientations, digital content embedded in the course management system, and analysis of the library resource requirements of individual assignments.

Based on the general education requirements for this program, SCF librarians created an assessment rubric specific to the BSN curriculum. Learn how this collaboration was made possible through open communication between the new BSN faculty and SCF librarians.
