How To Print

Lulzbot Dos and Don'ts

Lulzbot Dos and Don'ts

Lulzbot Dos:

  1. Check-in: Sign in at the front desk before accessing the creative technology room. Staff will confirm your certification is on file.

  2. Learn: Familiarize yourself with the Lulzbot software to enhance your creativity.

  3. Safety First: Keep hands away from moving parts. Wait for the print bed to cool before removing prints. Open the room door or use the air filter for ventilation when needed.

  4. Materials: Make sure the filament is compatible with the Lulzbot Taz6 printer. All filaments should be labeled.

  5. Filament Use: Choose the right filament and follow on-screen instructions.

  6. Clean: Clean the printer and tidy the area after use.

  7. Monitor: Stay present while the printer is in use to handle any issues.

  8. Projects: Make sure your model fits the print bed and adheres to time and filament limits. You can bring in your own filament for a project, but a library staff member must vet it. Export models as .gcode or .3MF and slice in Lulzbot software.

  9. Time: Projects must be completed within 2 ½ hours and 30 minutes before closing. Projects that exceed 2 ½ hours must be approved by a library Supervisor.

  10. Personal Use: All prints should be for personal use only. Please get with a librarian if you have questions about personal and commercial use.

Lulzbot Don'ts:

  1. Self-Repair: Don't try to fix the 3D printer yourself—contact library staff for help.

  2. Canceling jobs: Try not to cancel prints unless absolutely necessary. Ask staff for help if needed.

  3. Prohibited Materials: Don’t use glue sticks or scrapers on the print bed. It’s magnetic and can bend easily to remove projects.

  4. Never Leave Unattended: Always monitor the 3D printer while it's running.

  5. Open the Door: Don’t open the door while printing; the bed is hot, and the nozzle moves quickly.

  6. Fumes or Smoke: If you notice a strong smell or see smoke, stop the printer and check for issues.

  7. Materials: Be careful with new materials, as not all filaments work with the Lulzbot 3D printer.

  8. Be Afraid to Ask: Don't hesitate to ask library staff for assistance if needed.

  9. Manage Time: Keep track of your time while using the printer.

  10. Commercial Use: The 3D printer is for personal projects, not for commercial purposes.
