A guide to help users create citations using American Psychological Association Style, 7th edition.

Visual Materials

Movies/Film:
Director Last Name, First Initial. (Director). (Year). Title of video [Film]. Production company.

Example:

Scorcese, M. (Director). (2019). The Irishman (Film). TriBeCa Productions.

YouTube:

When citing YouTube videos, use the username of the account as the author.  

Username. (Date). Title of video: Subtitle [Video]. YouTube. URL 

Example:

Renown Health. (2017, May 12). Community health, population health and public health: Understanding the differences [Video]. YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ag3g_iHzuM 

Movies/Film:

When citing movies, use the last name of the producer as the author.

Parenthetical:

(Scorcese, 2019)

Narrative:

Scorcese (2019)

Youtube:

When citing YouTube videos, use the username of the account as the author.

Audio Materials

Podcast:

Whole Series:

Author Last Name, First Initial. Second Initial. (Author's Title). (Year or Years). Title of podcast [Audio podcast]. URL

Note: the producer's name may be used in place of the author's (if known).

Example:

Hobbes, M., & Gordon, A. (Hosts). (2020 - present). Maintenance Phase [Audio podcast]. https://www.maintenancephase.com/
 

Single episode:

Author Last Name, First Initial. Second Initial. (Author's Title). (Year, Month Day {of podcast}). Title of episode [Audio podcast episode]. In Title of Podcast. URL

Example:

Hobbes, M., & Gordon, A. (Hosts). (2025, November 13). Raw milk[Audio podcast episode]. In Maintenance Phase. https://maintenancephase.buzzsprout.com/1411126/episodes/18180572-raw-milk

*Note, if the date that the song was recorded is different from the original release date (most often used for classical music) your citation will include additional information:

Composer. (Year of album release). Title of album [Album recorded by]. Record Label. (Date of recording if different from song copyright date).

Examples:

Kidjo, A. (2022). Mother Nature [Album]. Verve.

Bach, J. S. (2010). The Brandenburg concertos: Concertos BWV 1043 & 1060 [Album recorded by Academy of St. Martin in the Fields]. Decca. (Original work published 1721).

Individual Song:

Artist Last Name, First Initial. Second Initial. (Year of release). Title of song. On Title of album [Album]. Record Label.
