Librarians Credentials:

All SCF Librarians are professionals with a Masters in Library Science (MLIS) degree accredited by the American Library Association (ALA), and with training in pedagogy, instructional design, and assessment of learning.

Scope of Practice

The SCF Libraries’ Reference & Instruction Services encompass information literacy, research, search strategies, and documentation of sources. SCF Librarians are familiar with many of the SCF courses, and they work in collaboration with faculty. This might include preparing and gathering information for specific assignments, courses, or projects. The librarians also prepare “Guides” with recommended sources for specific courses and assignments and learning objects, assessment of information fluency, or student learning outcomes related to library instruction.

Goals of the Information Fluency and Reference Services

  • To support the SCF students’ academic success by providing access to reliable research resources;
  • To assist with the discovery, use, and documentation of information for curriculum needs;
  • To design and implement an innovative information literacy/fluency program incorporating face-to-face and virtual instruction and active cross-campus collaboration; embedded within the framework of SCF’s curriculum and overall mission of academic excellence.

Assessment

All areas of Reference & Instruction are assessed with various methods for quality, patron satisfaction, information fluency competencies, SLOs, quantity & etc.
