SCF Libraries Policies

Laptops & Tablets 

1. In-House Laptop Use 

The SCF Libraries provide a limited number of PC & Mac laptops for in-house use.   

• Loaned for 4 hours 

• Limited to use in the Library spaces.  

 

2. Laptops for long-term loan 

The SCF Libraries provide a limited number of PC laptops for long term loans.   

• Loaned for 4-weeks.

• Available for students with a determined need, not for convenience. 

• An SCF Staff, Coach, Advisor, or Faculty member must refer the student to the Libraries for them to receive a long-term loan. 

• Requests can take up to 48 hours to be processed.

• Laptops have Microsoft Office.  Students cannot install additional software on them.  Additional software requires the approval of IT and may take longer than 48 hours. 
• Laptops are limited. It is recommended that the Library be notified prior to the start of a semester in order to ensure availability.

3. Laptop Kits 

The SCF Libraries provide a very limited number of laptop kits which include a Wifi hotspot for at-risk students with housing insecurity, digital needs, or other at-risk situations.  

• Requests must come from the Counseling Office [Susanne Walters (WalterS@SCF.edu) or the DRC [Pat Lakey, lakeyp@scf.edu ].

• Theresa Smith-Ennis & Alicia Long are the Library supervisors in charge of these requests. 

 

Calculators 

The SCF Libraries loan financial & scientific calculators to support students taking math classes. 

• Loan period: 1 week, renewals allowed as long as there isn’t a waiting list 

• Replacement cost: $150 

 

Cameras & Sound Equipment 

Camcorders & digital photo cameras:

• Loan period: 1 week, renewals allowed as long as there isn’t a waiting list 

• Replacement cost: $150 

 

WebCams 

• Loan period: 4 weeks, renewals allowed as long as there isn’t a waiting list 

• Replacement cost: $75 

 

Microphones & Sound Equipment 

• Loan period: 1 week, renewals allowed as long as there isn’t a waiting list 

• Replacement cost: varies per item/brand.

 

Misc. Accessories 

The SCF Libraries offer a variety of peripherals & accessories for loan to support students. Lost fines are dependent upon replacement costs.
